This is an eastern mud turtle that I photographed on a trip to Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware a few years back. For small creatures like this, I always like to get the camera on the ground if I can to really blur out the foreground and background and isolate the subject. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 200, f/5.6 at 1/320th of a second
Only had a drive through Bombay Hook a few years ago. We’re planning on retiring in the general area in a few years. That coast will be a treasure trove for me. Again, love the perspective here!

I think of you taking Mom’s sauce pan to the pit and bringing home turtles and frogs!
Not to mention that turtle and frog sanctuary that I tried to create in the side yard.

Thanks Rachel. Yes, plenty of creatures down there. Bombay Hook is a great refuge.
