Despite their ubiquity, the gray squirrels in my yard have been surprisingly camera shy when it comes to the camera trap. This guy finally stumbled into a nice spot early the other morning with the flash behind the tree illuminating the rain drops. Nikon D810 with Nikkor 17-35mm lens (at 17mm) ISO 500, f/11 at 1/160th of a second, Cognisys camera box, trail monitor and flashes.
Thanks Sue. Me too. I often overlook the common species. When living in New York it was always interesting to see people from other countries so enthralled by the squirrels in our city parks. Kind of like I was with vervet monkeys when in a city park in Entebbe, Uganda.
I like the illumination of the leaves below and the straightness of both the tree and the squirrels body. The night sky has a blue hue to it. Nice capture Sean.

He looks like he started to climb this tree and then forgot why he was climbing the tree.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this shot! That is a very impressive tail 🙂
Thanks Karen. I have noticed that the squirrels around here are especially well endowed in the tail department.
I can almost hear him: “I can do it, I an do I can do it!” Lovely pic.
