I remember how exciting it was to find these turtles when I was a kid growing up in central Connecticut. We also had snapping turtles and painted turtles, but they were more common. The real prize was the eastern box turtle. I came across this one many years later in southern Indiana — still a pleasure to watch them slowly make their way across the forest floor. Your now cousins always enjoy finding Turtles on the reservoir but never one so colorful in the grass must have been easy to spot & gave a great contrast of colors with surroundings

Wonderful perspective, Sean. You must have been as low as that box turtle when this photo was captured.
Thanks Sue. Yes, as low as I could get and still have a view through the grass.

Aunt Sue
Thanks Aunt Sue. Yes, this one was easily spotted in the forest. They’re almost more tortoise-like than turtle-like.

Our boxer, Katie, used to carry one or two home every year. They were unhurt, and we just sent them back on their way
Katie obviously identified with the name of these turtles.
Great pic!! Box turtles are the best!!
