Eastern bluebirds are a common sight in my backyard but they generally don’t allow me to get too close. Last month I posted a female. Here’s the male (with the much brighter plumage). Nikon D500 with Nikkor 500mm PF lens, ISO 400, f/5.6 at 1/400th of a second.
Why did you post the male and female bluebirds so far apart. Are they having problems? Are they breaking up? Man, I was really hopeful those two would make it.
Where I grew up in Michigan, Eastern Bluebirds were not common. I only got to see one, actually a pair of them, after I moved to FL, and only that once. They are brilliant and charming. So lucky for you to have them visit often!
It’s funny because I grew up only half an hour down the road from where I am now and never saw eastern bluebirds. There are so many of them living in my yard, but they’re really nervous of any sort of a close approach and they don’t seem to like feeders.
Hey Michael, no, they don’t like to come to feeders. But then again, I don’t usually put out feeders because we have so many bears in the area that love bird seed.
Beautiful birds! Maybe they will become habituated to you, Sean, & let you approach more closely. I like the image you captured with your 500pf lens. It would be nice to pick one of those puppies up if they ever become available at a time when greenbacks are not so rare.

You’ll be happy to hear that they are together and their relationship is stronger than ever.
Thank you Sean. I was hanging by a thread there.

Yes, and to think, the 500 PF is considered a very affordable lens. It is a pleasure to work with.
