Here’s another quarantine image from my backyard. I’ve seen a lot of these eastern bluebirds flying around, but they are reluctant to let me get too close. This guy was a bit more agreeable. His colors weren’t as vibrant as some of the others I’ve seen. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 500mm f/5.6 PF lens, ISO 800, f/5.6 at 1/800th of a second.
Thanks Kathrin. After I posted, I thought it might be a female. Either that or an immature male. Today I saw a few that were more grey, and another that was more vibrant.
Thanks Sue. I’ve been playing around with my new lens, the Nikon 500mm PF. It’s about the same size as a 70-200 f/2.8. So very handholdable. Great for birds in flight, or in this case, perched. Wish I could get off my property and try it out properly. I’ll still use my trusty 200-400 of course, but I was spurred to buy this one after tighter airline restrictions on weight have made it more difficult to travel with gear in places like Africa. On my next trip to the continent, I’ll leave the 200-400 at home and use this in its place.

Lovely shot! That’s a female, they are not as vibrant as the males.

Could be Michael. Things certainly are a bit upside down right now.
