A female Dall sheep walks along a granite cliff beside the Seward Highway south of Anchorage, Alaska. Dall sheep, also called thinhorn sheep, are characterized by their white fur. They range from western Canada on up through Alaska. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 350mm) ISO 800, f/5.6 at 1/250th of a second.
This makes me think about that great Lionel Richie song, “Say Ewe, Say Me (Say It Together)” and that makes me think how there just aren’t enough artists named Lionel these days.
I have been on the Seward Hwy, south of Anchorage. It was a terrifically windy day in July, overcast with some rain – basically nasty! Imagine being a Dall sheep, having to make your living under those conditions? Add winter’s below zero temps to such a scenario, then shudder to think of the conditions with which these wild animals must live. They also must contend with their natural predators, not to mention hunters who long to hang trophy mounts on their walls. Thank you, Sean, for your part in capturing the splendor of such wildlife. Images such as this one are trophy enough for me.

A perfect and gorgeous portrait!
