Something a bit more abstract today. In Lamington National Park in Queensland, Australia, you can get so close to the birds that I was able to get a few macro shots of the crimson rosella’s feathers. I used my close up filter to really get tight and magnify the bird’s back. Nikon D200 with Nikkor 80-200mm lens (at 200mm with Canon 500D close up filter) ISO 160, f/16 at 1/60th of a second, Nikon SB-600 flash
Fabulous. This is in my backyard (I live in Brisbane & have done some nice hikes & overnighters in Lamington). The birdlife in this area is indeed wonderful. I once heard a story that a visiting tourist, dazzled by all the psychedelic plumage, asked, “How do they paint all the birds?”
Not sure if you went to O’Reilly’s Guesthouse in Lamington, but I can recommend a wonderful book by its founder, Bernard O’Reilly, about his role in the rescue of survivors of a downed Stinson aircraft in the 30s, right in the thick of that very dense rainforest wilderness.

Oh, I should probably name that book: ‘Green Mountains’!
This is stunning! Would make a gorgeous print for a silk scarf. I would love to see a picture of the bird bearing these feathers.
Love it!
Stunning. Thanks for sharing.
