Used to be that seeing a coyote was at least somewhat of a rare sighting, but these days they seem to be everywhere. There was even one spotted on the roof of a bar here in Queens last year. I photographed this wily beast while hiking up Box Springs Mountain Park near Moreno Valley, California. The setting seemed a tad more coyote-like than the rooftop of a New York bar. Nikon D800 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 340mm) ISO 400, f/4 at 1/5000th of a second
Pretty scrawny looking character. The ones who prowled around my home in Gloucester bothering my dog Rogan were much more well-fed looking than this guy. Love the rocks.
They thrive every where but I did not know among Rocks also lucky to get picture they usually shy away from humans
I have seen them often but never could get a picture
The coyotes appearance and behavior has evolved in that they are now frequently travel in packs
and during the day time. In my neighborhood here in Dallas small dogs and cats are not same when
left outside as they quickly become the coyotes dinner.

cool looking pic. ) this looks like dessert to me.?
I always get a thrill seeing one of these. Terrific shot, Sean!
Thanks Rick. I do too. Although, wish I had as good luck with their cousins the wolves.
All it needs is a roadrunner and an Acme anvil.
No doubt. And maybe some dynamite.
Some pretty dope rock photography here as well.
Thank you Louis for the dope comment.

Those are the elitist Northeastern coyotes.

Perfect setting. I agree with comment above, need a roadrunner in the scene.
Thanks Aunt Sue, yes, I had to be quick to get this guy. I saw him out of the corner of my eye. There one second and gone the next.
My! What big ears it has! This coyote, which looks like a young one to me, is even smiling for you, Sean.

Seems to be the trend across the country. Although nice to hear that at least one species of mammal is thriving.
He seems to know you are there, pensive: friend, foe, meal?
