I saw quite a few coatis on this recent trip to Costa Rica. In fact, at one point, I was surrounded by about 25 of them as they were foraging, resting and playing in the forest. Before that encounter, however, I came across this solitary coati along a trail. I would run ahead of him, get down on the ground and fire off a few shots as he was walking toward me — eventually getting too close for my long lens to focus. I would then get up and run further down the trail and do it all over again. After doing this a few times, the coati seemed to take a liking to this little game and started running alongside me, as if he was my dog. It was fun, but made it difficult to get photos. Great image!
Lovely story. He might be telling all his mates about the funny biped behavior he witnessed in the jungle-but they probably won’t believe him!

Curious forest dog—-In its own home so playful—-Let’s enjoy our time.
What a great feeling to be part of their world when animals connect with us humans
Corcovado in Costa Rica is such a great place because the animals have never been hunted so they’re very trusting of humans.
Awww how cute!! You should’ve just taken it home then!
He is a nice little chap, isn’t he. Could have fun with one of those!
Yes, very personable. I’ll post some more when I was hanging out with them during their rest and relaxation time.

No doubt Con. Probably not used to someone running ahead and then flopping down on the ground, repeatedly.
