This is the time of year that chipmunks seem to come out of nowhere. That nowhere is actually hibernation. Much like bears, they spend the cold winter months bedded down in their burrows. This chipmunk was enjoying the warmer weather in Washington’s Olympic National Park. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 400, f/5.6 at 1/1250th of a second
They are absolutely darling—until they build a condo complex under the floor in your basement, find a way in, and surprise you chattering a greeting on your living room hearth! Then, not so cute. But this one has pure charm, Sean!

Always so cute when I see them chomping on my flowers 🌺

Perfect shot

Thanks. And yes, now that I own a house again, they seem to be everywhere in the flower beds.
Chips are not much different in size and stature than a mouse, but somehow so much cuter. It must be that stripe!
Agreed. Although mice are pretty cute too.

Ha. Could be. She certainly was cooperative.
Love the composition, the focus on the eyes, the hues in this image and I love the chipmunk’s tiny digits wrapped around its treasure!
Thanks Sue. Another of those often overlooked creatures because they can be so common.

Oh boy, sounds like quite the adventure.
This shot is absolutely precious!
