It’s my wife’s birthday today… so I figured why not post a picture of her walking across the African savanna behind a cheetah. Happy Birthday Baby.
I also wanted to pay tribute to my mother’s dog Rogan today. Rogan passed yesterday after a long, happy life. Rogan was a golden/Irish setter mix, not a polar bear, but he did like to lie on the ground in the exact pose as the bear below — a position, no doubt he’s in right now in doggie heaven. Rest well Rogan. Top Photo: Nikon D700 with Nikkor 17-35mm lens (at 35mm) ISO 400, f/6.3 at 1/1600th of a second

A bittersweet posting, Sean. Happy Birthday to your wife, Karen and rest well, Rogan. We, too, have felt the pain of the passing of more than one great doggie – nearly all who could be found from time to time in the pose of the above beautiful polar bear.
Thanks, Sean. Rogan loved to be in his “frogger” position until his arthritic hips wouldn’t let him do that anymore. I hope his pain is all gone now. I sure missed the sound of that happy tail thumping on the hardwood floor as I walked down the stairs this morning to fix breakfast. He was always so happy to see me. He was into his 15 th year of a great dogs life when he left me yesterday morning, in his sleep on the living room rug. Peaceful. A good dog until the end. He decided when to go, I did not have to make that impossible decision.
What a nice post Sean with both happiness and sadness. Happy Birthday to your wife and a very heartfelt rest in peace to Rogan. It is extremely tough when they leave us but I hope your mom always remembers the amazing times and has lots of photographs to look back on.
Very bitter sweet. Rest in peace Rogan. Sending you my love Mama Crane!!
And a very very happy birthday to Karen. What an amazing shot of her with the Cheetah!
Good question Donna. That cheetah is six months old. When she was six weeks old she was caught in a barbed wire fence and nursed back to health by a Masai warrior. She’s very trusting of people because of that. She lives in the wild now and makes kills on her own, etc. but still is very trusting (perhaps too much so) of humans.

Sean, why was your wife walking behind a cheetah?
