These three cheetah brothers were marking their territory — going from tree to tree — as a herd of nervous zebras looked. We would eventually see a chase — the cheetahs coming up on the losing end as they were unable to penetrate a wall of adult zebras boxing in their young.
This did not come in my inbox this mornig so I am really pleased that I went to the blog to find it! What an embarrassment of riches: 3 cheetahs and a herd(is it called herd?) of zebras in the background! Great shot, Sean.
Shardae, we were following the cheetahs for a while before they started marking their territory.
Patti, they actually pee on the tree, but as with many mammals their stream of urine shoots backward. I had some other shots in which you could see the stream, but only with the two cheetahs.
Mom, a group of zebras can be called a herd, a zeal, or my favorite, a dazzle.
Awesome shot, I was interested to read about the strategy the governs the these types of power plays for survival (you talked about the Zebras successfully boxing in their young) you can almost see the the cheetahs (and zebras over shoulder) considering their strategy on this one. Very cool.

Are they marking the tree with scent from their tails?
OMG that is such an amazing shot! Did you have to wait a while to get it? Or did you just get lucky?
