As much as I love being out on game drives while on safari, I also look forward to the downtime when I’m free to walk around camp searching for birds and other creatures that happen to be passing through. This bronzy sunbird was outside our room on Lake Mutanda in Uganda. Nikon Z8 with Nikkor 500mm lens, ISO 10,000, f/5.6 at 1/500th of a second.
Such beautiful coloring, as though he/she had a shawl wrapped around his/her shoulders. You have such a good eye for seeing this beauties in their natural settings!
Sean I love waking up to your pictures every morning as I have done for years!!!!
. I have a simple question about your Z8 pf500 set up. I assume you are using the z adapter as I am thinking of getting the PF500 because of your beautiful shots. I have been looking at all the other combos that people post but I think the even with the adapter the PF500 may be the most manageable weight wise and for hand holding.
Thanks Rick, really appreciate it. Yes, I love the 500 PF on my Z8. I had been using it primarily on a D500 and occasionally my D850. The Z8 makes it that much better of a lens thanks to all the subject detection modes. And auto focus seems better even with the FTZ adapter. Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know, just the way it seems to me, likely due to the ease with which the Z cameras focus. I haven’t used any of the longer Z lenses so I can’t compare. I only have the Z 24-70 f/2.8, which I love but nothing beyond that. Yet. Seems there are suddenly a lot of options with the new Z600 PF, the Z800, the 180-600 etc. But for me, I think I’ll stick to the 500 PF for now as the size, aperture and focal range all fit my current needs. Of course, I’d love that 400 f/2.8 with built in converter if only I could afford it.
