I photographed this hummingbird in Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana last year. It’s a female broad tailed hummingbird. The males are much more colorful with a red throat and green head and body. This young lady was among several other species of hummingbird that were fluttering around a feeder in the back yard of the refuge headquarters.

They are amazing birds aren’t they. Beautiful to look at and the speed of their wings and the way they can hover while feeding. Lovely shot. I love them. I was fascinated today reading about the dragonfly and its amazing aerobatics with its four wings which can each be used independently allowing it to fly on any angle, even backwards 🙂 Great stuff once again Sean.
