This one goes out to my friends at No Fish (nofishcardgame.com) doing their part to bring awareness to our vanishing sea creatures. This school of blue-striped grunts were in the protected waters of Hol Chan Marine Reserve in Belize. Definitely looking forward to getting the camera under water again sometime soon. Sony RX1005 at 8.8mm (in underwater housing) ISO 125, f/4 at 1/320th of a second.
You ever wonder what fish study when they’re in school all day? Do you think it’s something really self-referential, like “Fish Studies” or did their parents pressure them into something like pre-law?
There’s nothing quite like a cool underwater image. This is spectacular – the color of the stripes on the fish coordinates nicely with the aqua-hued water. Countless people have been drawn to the world’s seas, along with their snorkels & scuba gear, so they can see for themselves such watery vistas & the treasures they hold. It’s difficult to write such comments without paying homage to the late, great Cousteau. Somewhere out there, Sean, he is nodding approval!
I look forward to seeing the sights you & your underwater camera gear capture, Sean, once you secure your open water scuba cert. I took a couple of dives during the process, but wound up with a bad case of nerves centered in my stomach – fearful I would become underwater fodder to a great white shark in Monterey Bay! At least I can say I understand the time, depth & altitude monitoring requirements involved in scuba diving. I spoke with a fellow diver who continued the open water course work. He described a night dive he experienced that just knocked his marine socks off. I am sure he is still enjoying his scuba diving addiction!

Thanks Sue. I do regret that I’ve yet to get my scuba certification. Soon. And then I can be a bit more methodical with my camera under water.

A beautiful refreshing image! The blues are amazing. The composition is perfectly balanced. Great moment in the water.
