Usually, I like to get that focus point right on the eye, but in this case, it seemed the blue tongue was calling for the attention. This is the blotched blue-tongued lizard. Also called the blotched blue-tongued skink and a few other names. I photographed him/her at a wildlife rescue center in Tasmania, Australia. The blue tongue is used to scare off potential predators, but the lizard itself is relatively harmless and they are often kept in captivity as pets. You’re absolutely right in getting the tongue in focus, along with the head dead center. One of my kid’s owned a Schneider’s skink once. In the summer months we would feed it grasshoppers from our yard and and an occasional moth. Fun to watch the skink jump and catch it’s food. I remember seeing the blue tongue ones in pet stores. Very nice capture. The blue tongue probably looks menacing to the wildlife surrounding this lizard, but to humans it’s a beautiful color!
I’ve always had blue tongues around my place, but this afternoon discovered the biggest one I’ve ever seen. Wonderful creatures, who are very welcome in my garden.

THAT IS AWESOME!
Thanks Sue. Tasmania was full of oddly awesome creatures.
First blue tongue other than a Chow that I have seen. Pretty cool.
Love it! What a cool looking creature. Your choices really show him off to perfection.
