Black-tailed jackrabbits have particularly long ears for rabbits. This black-tailed jackrabbit had particularly long ears for a black-tailed jackrabbit. Photographed in Anza-Borrego State Park in California. Nikon D800 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 400, f/4 at 1/1250th of a second.
OH, I DO LOVE THIS IMAGE! You must have had your chin resting on the Arizona sands when photographing the jackrabbit. The angle is perfect for emphasizing the rabbit’s long ears. I’d call this image a great wall hanger, Sean! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Sue. Yes, as you know, I get down on the ground whenever the animals allow it. This was an extremely hot day in the desert and the jackrabbits were particularly tame. Once in the shade they didn’t want to leave it.
Thanks Mary. I love jackrabbits. One of my favorite animals to photograph. They can be quick but when it’s really hot, they give you a bit more time to get the shots.
Yeah, it was very hot (almost 120 degrees hot) and very dry in the desert, which made for interesting color palette when getting on the ground to blur it all out.

Ears seem rather large for small bunny
When these guys run, they look like tiny deer galloping through the desert. Very cool animals.
I think all your photos are terrific. This one especially struck me today.

Wonderful monochrome palette, except for the bit of pink in his ears–and what ears they are!!
