It’s tough being a bighorn sheep in Yellowstone in the winter. Finding suitable grass for grazing can be quite a challenge with all the snowfall that the park gets. This ram was opportunistically feeding on whatever shrubbery he could find. Nikon D700 with Nikkor 70-200mm lens (at 120mm) ISO 400, f/4 at 1/3200th of a second
You captured the daily struggle bighorn sheep face in an amazingly beautiful setting, yet during winter’s bleakest conditions. I like the composition of this image, Sean!
This is beautiful. While close-up wildlife photography is also beautiful, there is something so special about showing more of the landscape. It tells a completely different story. And this is why I’ve been following your photography for the past several years.

Thanks Sue. I’m always trying to go wide to include the environment when possible. And in Yellowstone, it’s almost always possible.

Please tell me this one has been published! If it hasn’t, it will be.
Ha. Not yet Alan. Thanks. Always nice when you can include the animal’s environment.
Makes me feel sad I did not get out west this winter.
Nice shot.
Me too. This one was from a few year’s back.

Thanks Rachel. As I mentioned above, my favorite locations are those that allow me to include the environment. Yellowstone is one of the best.
Gorgeous! Just gorgeous, elegant, graceful, serene, the lonely quiet of winter….
Thanks Laura.
Amazing shot!!!!!
