These four photos have all been posted before, but I thought I’d share them again as they were all finalists this year in the BBC Wildlife Photography of the Year competition. Unfortunately, none of them made the final cut, but still a nice honor to have four make it as far as they did in what is generally considered the world’s most prestigious photography competition for wildlife. The sea lion was a finalist in the “Art in Nature” category. The Lake Granby shot was in the “Wild Spaces” category. The maned wolf was in the “Endangered Species” category. And the leaf insect was in the “Animal Portraits” category.
That third image with it’s almost monochrome appearance and simplicity in subject matter is my favourite. Takes a great photographer to make a very simple subject so beautiful – I’ve love to hang a framed edition on my wall of that image any day.
Congratulations on getting to the finalists level – such a great honour and achievement. Sorry about missing the ‘final cut’, but having 4 images make the finalist’s list is really outstanding and something to be very proud of.
Congratulations and well-deserved! No surprises here! And it is special to make the final cut. There are many superb photographers out there and you are certainly one of best. I enjoy your daily posts so much. As a photographer myself, even though I can’t travel like you or even afford the equipment you use, your shots are a constant source of inspiration. They also inspire me to do the best with the equipment I DO have. Thank you!
I would be proud to have taken any of them. You may not have won but to have 4 in the finals is fantastic. My favorite is number 3, simple but so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations! This is a fantastic accomplishment!! You are inspiring to me as a photographer and when I view your images on a daily basis I am able to imagine more possibilities for myself AND for the future of this amazing planet we call home!
All 4 are stellar images, that wolf is truly an interesting creature, never saw a wolf with such long legs & big ears! He (she?) is beautiful!
What’s the matter with those judges anyway? I bet Mom and I could do better at choosing.
Whatever. And while those other photogs may have gotten lucky on a day, our Sean is out there every day in searing heat, pouring rain, freezing weather, foreign lands, and steamy jungles all while successfully dealing with Homeland Security, other biting insects, and lying prone on rocks and mud.
Sean , what an honor for you and well deserved, so,proud soon to,have you as part of the family and look forwards to more incredible captures of the wild life still left on this planet to,share with you and the world.
Congratulations! Your work is admirable, and it brings us “desktop safari adepts” a glimpse of the wonders in this world! Sending best wishes and positive energy your way!
