This guy made an appearance in our backyard on Friday evening. Our yard slopes up in the back and catches the last rays of the sun, just a bit of which were hitting his nose and the surrounding foliage. He took a quick look our way before disappearing into the forest. I’m still waiting for him, or one of his friends, to show the courtesy of walking through my camera trap. Maybe tomorrow. Nikon D500 with Nikkor 500mm PF lens, ISO 1600, f/5.6 at 1/60th of a second.
That is AWESOME and what an endorsement for Nikon’s 500mm pf lens, Sean! You must have a beautiful property – it looks like you bought a wildlife refuge, Sean, not a garden-variety residential lot. Sign me, Envious!
Thanks Sue. Still waiting to take the lens on a proper trip. For now it’s performing quite admirably in the back yard. Just wish the opportunities were less few and far between. But for sure, we have a great property here just fifteen minutes from the state capitol building.
Thanks Rachel. Guests had just arrived for a socially distanced dinner in the backyard and I had to tell them to wait while I ran to get the camera. You never know when the opportunities are going to stop on by.
WOW!!! He’s gorgeous! Perfect lighting and framing. A very healthy looking guy too. Hope he wasn’t interested in joining the dinner party! I’m sure it was a thrill for your human guests.

Nice! He is a big one!
Thanks Mary. He was. We’ve seen this guy a few times.
OMG! You must have been ecstatic! I know how long you have been waiting to capture your forest friends on camera. This is delightful!
Well, still looking for that wide angle shot when one of these bears wanders through my camera trap set up.
As of late I have seen a lot of bear photos on FB, this one gets best in show. The setting and lighting enhances the capture. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Donna. There’s definitely been a lot more bear activity as of late. I never heard of a sighting growing up in Cheshire.
Exciting for you & Karen all wildlife right in backyard
Waiting for many more of your bests
Thanks Aunt Sue. I’m hoping a few of the other locals like skunks and opossums come for a visit soon.
Maybe he read Yelp and heard the food was pretty good at your place………
I wish it was that easy Kim. You never know when one of these guys might show up.
Ooof. Scary. But as long as he doesn’t come sniffing around your back door I think you’re probably safe.
Well, they’ve done that too. Last fall we had two come to the front door to investigate the pumpkins and gourds Karen put out.

This photo took my breath away. What a majestic animal! Everything about the photo is beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

Great light in this photo, Sean. A fun visitor.
