I’ve yet to see any skunks this spring. They seem to like my yard starting later in the summer and into the fall. Here’s a shot taken back in October. I dialed the front flash down quite a bit while adding power to the flash behind the log, creating almost full rim light except for the white back fur.Nikon D810 with Nikkor 17-35mm lens (at 17mm) ISO 500, f/11 at 1/160th of a second.
I know it’s tough right now bud, and you haven’t seen them in while, but don’t worry, the skunk will come out tomorrow. Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, there’ll be skunk.
I had a stuff toy skunk just like that as a kid with the softest tail. I remember asking my Mom to buy it at Amity Pharmacy in the Maplecroft Plaza in Cheshire.
Love this graphic image, all black, white & dark grey with just a touch of the brown color between his white and black fur to draw the eye further in. Great symmetry. Glad for you the flash didn’t “set him off”!

It certainly does look soft. Although I’m not willing to test it out.

Thanks Laura. It seems they get used to the flash after a while. And the way I have it set up, it’s not hitting them direct in the eyes.
Great lighting for this subject
You may have grubs in your lawn —better skunks than chemicals!
Wow!
