In this large troop of 23 mountain gorillas, there were a couple of babies. This one was putting on show for me while Mom remained somewhat disinterested. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 210mm) ISO 800, f/4 at 1/60th of a second.
Thanks Sue. This is an old one from my first trip to Uganda back in 2009. Always nice to go back through the files and find a few images I haven’t shared yet.
I have a friend who is a great naturalist. But he’s a bit disdainful when you use human words to describe animals, like ‘cute.’ Well, I don’t know cute in Gorilla, so I’m going to state that this ‘baby’ is very ‘cute.’
Back when I was young juvenile gorillas used to show respect for their elders, and wildlife photographer. It was all please and thank you (yes they could talk then too) and none of this hanging on branches foolishness.
Thanks Rick. Yes, I’ve been twice now to two different national parks. A great experience each time and quite different from each other. Bwindi in Uganda the first time in 2009 and Mgahinga, also in Uganda just before Covid locked everything down in 2020.

No doubt Rachel. I like using human words because it helps people to relate to them and see them as equally vital and important species to ourselves.

You know I always love the babies.. This one is whatever gorilla-speak is for “adorable”
Yes, I remember this little guy well. Almost trying to get my attention while the mother acting like I wasn’t even there.
Sweet. That face! Is this in Uganda? Rwanda?
Thanks Jennifer. This is Bwindi in Uganda. Although just over the border from the Congo and Rwanda.
We visited Mountain Gorillas in 1988 in then-Zaire. One of the highlights of my life. Wonderful photo Sean.
