I photographed this pair of American toads in a park in Toronto a few years back while on a commercial shoot. Even through the hazy blur, she doesn’t look too impressed with his vocal sac. Nikon D810 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 400, f/5 at 1/2500th of a second.
Yeah, that’s an impressive vocal sac. But he drives a 1997 Toyota Sienna, has 800 tadpoles and clearly isn’t over his ex even though it’s been 17 years. If a princess kissed that frog, he would turn into a grown man who wore flannel in the summer and whose favorite restaurant was Velveeta.

Most excellent! How long did you have to remain still to capture this moment? Pray tell, what time of day did this occur?
Thanks Sue. This one was in the morning. They were croaking quite a bit so not too difficult to catch that vocal sac fully inflated.
