You can see why the African wild dog gets is nicknamed the painted dog. They are quite spectacular. I’ve only seen them twice and only on this occasion in Botswana was I able to spend a good deal of time with a large pack. Unfortunately, African wild dogs are endangered due to habitat fragmentation. A problem which leads to conflict with humans, transmission of infectious diseases and high mortality rates. Here’s hoping conservation efforts can save the species from further decline. Nikon D700 with Nikkor 70-200mm lens (at 150mm) ISO 400, f/4 at 1/160th of a second.
It’s always important to spend quality time with wild dogs. You can follow each other on social media but over the long term that won’t sustain your relationship.

Thanks Aunt Sue. This was right at the end of the day so there was some nice light adding to the atmosphere.

Very true Louis.
We never got to see one of these gorgeous animals when we were in Africa. This is perfect portrait.
Thanks Laura. Yes, they are a rare sighting. Even in the areas that they are more common.

Thanks Mary.

No, not this species. They are only in Africa and they are currently listed as endangered.
Great shot as always, the coloring reminds of a calico cat.
What a spectacular pattern this particular African dog presents!
