Those of you who have followed my blog for a while know that I don’t post pictures of captive or domesticated animals. But with the passing of our beloved Lola this weekend, it seemed appropriate to suspend those rules for a day. Lola was a true house cat — her only glimpses of the outside world coming from the windows of the five New York apartments that she called home during her seventeen plus years. That being said, I saw her often in the wild. In the playfulness of a cheetah in Kenya. The inquisitiveness of a leopard in Botswana. The hours spent lazing in a favorite spot of a jaguar in Brazil. The body language of a bobcat in southern California. And the sheer physical resemblance to the many wild cats that I’ve photographed from India to Costa Rica. There’s no doubt that they are all related in some way or another. Here’s to the felines. And especially the one that brought us so much joy over the years. Sleep well Lola.
I am so very sorry for your loss Sean. This is a wonderful tribute and in time it will be easier to look back on this and other amazing photos you have of Lola and they will make you smile.
It is so difficult to lose a furry family member, especially when they have been a big part of your life for so many years. I am sorry for your loss. I hope it is comforting to know that you gave her a good life.
So sorry for your loss Sean….Lola is probably romping in endless fields of catnip with our family kitty Sputnik, who passed away earlier in the year…RIP.
Good night, Lola! You are a gorgeous member of the Tribe of Gray, just like my Cocobop was, and I’m sure just as unique and irreplaceable. I am glad your companion saw in you a muse and a reflection of the wild glorious creatures he brings to the world through his camera.
Sean,
You and Karen have my heartfelt sympathies on the loss of your feline sweetie. There truly is nothing better than a warm cat on your lap. She will be missed by both of you. It is so wonderful that you have such lovely memories of her to carry with you until you meet again. All the animals do go to heaven. Of this, I am sure. Heaven is a place of eternal happiness and really, how could anyone be eternally happy without their beloved pets by their sides? That is all the proof I need to know that my pets will be with me again someday. Until you get there, she is being well looked after, I am sure!
What a sweet tribute to Ms Lola! She was so loved & cared for that no doubt gave her the long amazing life she lived!!! treasure these sweet pictures you captured of her!!!! hugs to you both!
