Behold the sugar glider. This is another one from the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Tasmania. Sugar gliders aren’t native to Tasmania but are an introduced species from mainland Australia. They are nocturnal and as the name suggests, they can fly — or glide, from tree to tree. Extremely cute, they have become a fairly common exotic pet in the United States. Great detail in this image, Sean. Is that by any chance your profile caught in the catchlight of the sugar glider’s left eye? If they are nocturnal, I assume you may have used a flash or other external light source of some type. Anyway, it’s a cutie!
It is my reflection. This one was taken at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary (for orphaned and injured animals) so in captivity and thus why the little guy was awake during daylight hours. I don’t post photos from zoos, but I do visit places like Bonorong from time to time that are doing good to rescue animals.
What a dear little creature. Sad to know that they are being used as pets. They belong where they are, gliding between trees. Looking forward to Peter Butterfield’s take on this.
