A quick break in all the 100 degree desert action for the complete opposite. This was the first polar bear that greeted me when I arrived at Seal River Lodge in northern Manitoba, Canada. He was nice enough to pose for a few portraits before moving on. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 200-400mm lens (at 400mm) ISO 400, f/4 at 1/400th of a second
He’s a happy and contented chappy isn’t he. Waiting patiently and posing. Great shot Sean. Something I’ve been meaning to ask you is, have you been on a photographic journey through my country New Zealand? We are often referred to as one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Maybe not as much wildlife in proportion to USA or Africa, but still plenty of it if you know where to go. Spending 2 or 3 weeks here would be rewarding as far as photographic opportunities. 🙂 Many films are shot here in New Zealand, especially The L o t Rings saga and Hobbits series to name a few.
Oh my gosh! He is enormous! He looks like he eats well! How much do you suppose he weighs?
I have read that their coats are not actually white, but the hairs are hollow for insulation, giving the appearance of a white coat. Have you seen the pelt up close before? Is the fur coarse or soft? I can’t get over his size and the healthy appearance of him. All these animals look well fed and really free of disease. I was impressed with the handsome coat on your coyote the other day. Like you, most of the coyotes I see in CT look mangy and scruffy, not sleak and sharp like that one. He was whip thin but they are built for stealth and speed. He looked in rude health, as well. It is good to see the wildlife thriving unencumbered by disease or hunger.

Hey, he seems to be wearing Rogan’s nose. How did that happen?

Comfortable in its skin—-No overt menace required—–A Gandolfini bear.

I really love this picture. Thanks for sharing.
Papa bear.
Is it fear that has—-Us note in intense detail—-Such a dangerous visage?
Oh this is wonderful!! (I also love the poems of your other commentators every day) 🙂
