Venice Rookery in Florida is one of the best places in the country to photograph wading birds like great egrets, blue herons, night herons and anhingas. The birds spend all day collecting nesting material and flying back to the rookery with branches in their beaks. Flight shots are easily had. That said, I preferred this photo of two egrets back at the nest showing each other a little love. They were in full breeding plumage with their green lores surrounding their eyes. Hi Raylene,
This shot was taken in February. The winter months seem to be the best time at this location when the birds are in full nesting mode and their colors are at their peak. But with Florida, anytime of the year yields quite a few good birding opportunities.

Sean this is a marvelous photo and one of your best I have seen in the past.

Thanks Larry. I do like this one too and just realized that I had never posted it to the blog even though I took it a few years ago.
WOW!
Exquisite, Sean! I was made aware of the Venice Rookery in the last year. It is high on my bucket list!
Definitely one of those spots that makes it almost too easy.
Awesome!
Beautiful shot. I really like the excitement shown by the raised feathers on their necks.
You captured their love in beautiful picture of this pair of Egerts

Exquisite shot. Love the green mascara.
Ha, yes, they are so much more attractive with that hit of green.
Stunning. Thanks for sharing one of my favorite Florida birds.
When is the best time to go?
